Who We Are

The West Indies Cricket Umpires' Association (WICUA) is the Governing Body for Umpire associations in the Americas. This body is recognized by the Cricket West Indies and the International Cricket Council as the representative for Umpires in the Americas region.

WICUA was established in 1962 as a Not-For-Profit Organization, with the aim of developing and supporting umpires throughout the region. WICUA was incorporated under the Companies Act of Jamaica as a Limited Company on the 10th day of March, 2025.  The registered name is West Indies Cricket Umpires Association Limited and it is registered as Limited by Guarantee without Share Capital to conduct activities of a Civic Organization. The Directors are Umpires Hugh Fugo and Cecil Fletcher of Jamaica.

WICUA was also incorporated in the State of Maryland, USA, on the 4th day of September, 2025. The registered name is West Indies Cricket Umpires’ Association Inc., and it is registered as a Tax-Exempt Non-Stock Corporation. The Directors are WICUA Executives, Vivian Johnson (President), Goaland Greaves (Vice President), Azad Khan (Secretary), Rohan Chambers (Treasurer), and Peter Nero (Officer). At the Federal level, WICUA has been approved by the USA's Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as Exempt from Federal Income Tax under the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 501(c)3, and is classified as a Public Charity. At the Maryland State level, WICUA was also registered as a Charitable Organization on December 1, 2025.

WICUA is working closely with the local Umpire Associations in the Americas to attract and train young and willing umpires so that some of them can be recognized and elevated to the International Cricket Council Panel of Umpires, as the demand for trained and qualified umpires keeps growing at a phenomenal rate.

Another aim is to ensure the level of respect is brought back to the game of cricket. Our main focus is to impart complete knowledge of the laws of the sport to not just as many umpires as possible but also to heads of clubs, leagues, captains, and other cricket organizations with a view of raising the general understanding of the sport and the game’s laws.

The current Training Committee Chairman is Mr. Peter Nero from Trinidad and Tobago. He works and liaises with the other local Training Committees in each Territory.

We are also working closely with other Umpire associations worldwide to train and expose some of our young umpires to their culture and some of their own to our culture. To date there have been a few exchange programmes. These have been with the United Kingdom, South Africa, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. There are more planned for the future. On the domestic front, we recently relaunched our regional exchange programme in March of 2025, with 4 umpires from the USA umpiring in Jamaica over a 2-week period. In September, 2025, Denzil James from Trinidad & Tobago became the first umpire from the West Indies to take up assignments in the USA under this exchange programme relaunch. He umpired matches in New York and Georgia during the first half of September 2025.(Click here for more).
